"In the Zone" "Dialed In"
When you are so immersed in what you are doing that everything else falls away, including the self and time. This is flow, an enjoyable state of full yet seemingly effortless engagement.
Flow is considered an 'optimal' experience and is associated with high levels of performance, motivation and wellbeing.
Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi introduced the concept of flow in the 1970s based on interviews and observations.
He specified task-related factors that foster flow:
1. A match of skills and task demands
2. Immediate feedback
3. Clear goals
He articulated characteristic flow experiences:
1. Merging of action and awareness
2. Distorted perception of time
3. Loss of self-consciousness
4. Sense of effortless control
5. Intrinsic enjoyment
6. Full concentration
